Nazzareno Vassallo

Founder

Born in 1951, Nazzareno Vassallo was the son of Pio and Carmela née Camilleri, and the eighth of twelve siblings. Today, Mr Vassallo holds the role of Chairman of Vassallo Group of Companies that employs over 1,700 people.

Starting out his career at nineteen years old, Nazzareno was entrusted with the management of freshly established Vassallo Builders Ltd, which was born out of a partnership started by his father.

Today, the company has expanded into a number of segments operating in various fields that include construction, healthcare, IT, hospitality, real estate and catering amongst others

Throughout his career, Nazzareno has been actively involved in his community and has served as Mayor of Mosta between 1994 and 1998 as well as holding the role of President for the Socjeta’ Filamonika Nicolo Isouard between 2000 and 2013. Mr Vassallo is also the Honorary Consul of Malaysia.

Mrs Maryanne Vassallo

Mrs Maryanne Vassallo  is a founding member of the Group. She is a member on the board of directors of Vassallo Builders Group Ltd as well as  a director on Vassallo Builders Ltd. Mrs Vassallo has the  wellbeing of the Group’s employees and elderly residents very much at heart. She regularly visits residents at Caremalta’s nursing homes as well as employees recovering in hospitals due to illness.

Natalie Briffa Farrugia

Natalie Briffa Farrugia graduated in Psychology and Management studies in 1995 from the University of Malta. A year later, she read for her post-graduate certificate in Education and in 1999 graduated in Gerontology and Geriatrics from the European Centre of Gerontology at the University Of Malta. As part of her under-graduate studies, Natalie enjoyed part of her studies at Clarion University in Pennsylvania, USA.

Natalie’s extensive experience in the field of ageing and her passion to make a difference in peoples’ lives, coupled with her strong background in voluntary work, have helped strengthen the care philosophy with the Group, and has contributed towards enhancing the Group’s commitment to achieve the highest quality of care in the industry. Today, Natalie Briffa Farrugia holds the role of Chief Executive Officer of CareMalta Ltd., ensuring that the company’s vision consistently drive its decisions for the older community it serves.

She is a director at Vassallo Group Limited, LiveLife and HILA Limited. Between 2012 and 2015, Natalie served as Chairperson of the board of the European Association of Homes and Services for the Elderly (EAHSA) in Brussels, Belgium.

To date she serves as a member of the Council for the Malta Employers’ Association and is a board member of the Malta Community Chest Fund, a charitable institution chaired by the President Of Malta. One of Natalie’s higher goal in life is to help alleviate people’s sufferings and she does this through her commitment and active membership in the Living Waters Mission Team and Cenacolo Community.

Pio Vassallo

Group CEO

Graduating in Construction Management in 1999 from the University of Reading, Pio Vassallo has been involved in the Group’s operations since 1995 when he began his career as a Project Manager’s assistant.

After concluding his studies, Pio was promoted to Works Manager and eventually worked his way up to the title of Director of Operations. During this time, Pio developed new procedures for the way the company handled contracts, including resource scheduling, critical path analysis as well as management reporting. In 2002 he was promoted to CEO of Vassallo Builders Group Ltd – a position he occupies till the present day.

Today, Pio is responsible for all activities of the Company including overseeing all operational and commercial activities while ensuring the smooth running of the company in the most proficient and profitable way.

Some of the projects in his portfolio include; the completion of the Radisson Golden Sands Resort and Spa, the Prince of Wales Residence in Sliema, Dar il-Madonna tal-Mellieha, the Rehabilitation of the Malta Landfill at Maghtab and Gozo Landfill in Qortin, Roseville Home for the Elderly in Attard, The George Urban Boutique Hotel in Paceville, the American Embassy in Ta’ Qali and the completion of the San Antnin Waste Treatment Plant amongst others.

Pio is a sports enthusiast and has taken part in numerous sporting activities in order to raise funds for charity that included climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1996, and participating in the Life Cycle Challenge in Russia in 2014.

Christian Vassallo

Christian completed his studies as a Chartered Director at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London.

Throughout his career, Christian has gained extensive management experience by being entrusted to manage several teams and by occupying various managerial roles. 

Over the past sixteen years, Christian has operated in the food and beverage, manufacturing, hospitality and retail industries. During this time, he has led numerous successful and cost-effective organisational changes across the various segments in which he worked. 

As one of the Directors at Vassallo Group, Christian is regularly involved within the various sectors of the Group, adding further testimony to his successful flexibility and situational adaptation, whilst keeping abreast with the Group’s on-going structures. 

Christian Vassallo has been recently appointed as Strategic Director of Vassallo Group and is also responsible for the execution of the Vassallo 2020 Vision.  Christian is also an Executive Director at CaterEssence Limited Malta.

Ruben Vassallo

Upon completing his studies in Architecture and Civil Engineering from the University of Malta in 2007, Ruben Vassallo started working in the family business shortly after graduating. Gaining a wealth of experience through a hands-on approach, Ruben was appointed as the official architect for Vassallo Group.

Throughout his career, Ruben has worked on a number of significant projects and is involved in the design of new buildings commissioned by the Group, as well as any other extensions or alterations required to existing building. Today, Ruben also runs his own firm, Vassallo Architects.

His portfolio includes projects such as the majority of the CareMalta retirement homes, which included the extension of Casa Arkati, Roseville in Attard, and more recently, the conversion of a three-star hotel into Casa San Paolo. Ruben was also involved in the extension of the Tagliaferro Business Centre, one of Malta’s foremost office spaces, amongst others.

Today, Ruben enjoys the role of Director at Vassallo Group and Vassallo Builders Group Ltd, and is responsible for the joinery and steel section of the company. He was also recently appointed CEO for the properties companies within the Vassallo Group, that include Cater Group Ltd, the Tagliaferro Business Centre, Business Property Ltd, Magister Academy, San Martin Estate Ltd, and following its division, A&N Properties Ltd.

In his personal life, Ruben is an avid sportsman having undertaken a number of strenuous challenges that included canoeing from Malta to Sicily for charity, and training for the Half Iron Man Challenge that includes mastering three disciplines; swimming, running and cycling.

Charlene Vella Vassallo

Charlene Vella Vassallo recently joined the Care Malta Group as a director focusing primarily on alternative care. A lawyer by profession, she obtained her Doctorate in Laws in 2012 and certainly not new to the Vassallo Group, as she has been a director and shareholder for a good number of years. In 2018 she read a Masters of Laws in Human Rights of the Child from the University of London . Since 2020 she has also  been appointed as director on the board of Diligex, wherein she represents the group whilst at the same time offering her expertise in the legal background.

Charlene Vella Vassallo is a mother of four. She firmly believes that through her journey of embracing motherhood  and past missionary experiences,  she has rekindled a strong desire, to give something back to society. As a newly appointed director on business development within the CareMalta Group, she aspires to put her human rights’ specialisation into practice particularly through the new venture of alternative care. 

Charlene is an avid open water swimmer having also participated in the Gozo-Malta swim in 2021.  A sports enthusiast,  she had also participated in various marathons and similar challenges not to mention, that she has represented Malta in an illustrious 10 year career in rugby, moulding her in a strong and determined person also capable and acknowledging the importance of working in a team.
