Part of the Valletta City gate project involved the conversion of the former Royal Opera House ruins into an open air theatre. The job called for the clearing out of the debris which accumulated throughout the years, rebuilding and restoration of the remaining original stonework, construction of new foundations, structural steel frame, timber decking and 938 outdoor seats. The theatre can be set up with the possibility of 6 different configurations depending on the types of performances. The materials chosen for the project also came from various parts of the world. The species lpe was chosen as the durable wooden flooring which was bought from Spain after being imported from  South America.
